The vegetation of Slovenia will impress you by its diversity – forests and thickets, vast fields and sunny meadows, alpine pastures and green hills, where a lot of protected plants are to be found. All in all you can find here 3167 species of plants, sixty-six of them are endemic, 330 are included in the Red Book.
Despite the fact that more than half of the area is covered by forests, one million trees are planted every year. The vegetation is represented mainly by hornbeam-oak forests, pineries, beech-fir forests.
Agriculture is developed in the eastern part of the country where plain landscape prevails. In the Western and Southern areas the green hills are good enough for viticulture.
If you want to see the real Slovenian nature, you can just leave the suburbs on your way to the country. Here you can see a roe or a brown bear, their population began increasing recently although they were on the verge of extinction in Slovenia just some time ago. There a lot of different kinds of marine animals in the Adriatic waters. You can find many species of birds here in Slovenia, moreover a lot of birds of passage make their stops here.
