The population of this small country is only 2 million people; in comparison with the neighbor republics the population of Slovenia is quite homogeneous. The major part of population is represented by Slovenians, there are representatives of other nationalities in the country: Hungarians, Italians, Serbs, Albanians, Croats, Macedonians, Bosnians and other peoples of the Balkan peninsula who have recently settled in Slovenia.
The area of Slovenia is populated very unevenly. The majority of Slovenians live in the capital area and in Ljubljana itself. Almost all the population is concentrated in the cities (about 80%), the rural area is poorly populated. In an average Slovenian village there are about 250 people.
The main dignity of the Slovenian population is intelligence and literacy. For example, the literacy level among the people older than 15 y.o. is close to 100%! The Slovenian people are distinguished with diligence, thrift and carefulness.
