The official language is Slovenian. The Slovenian language reminds a bit of Russian, that is why when the Russian tourists come to the country they easily get accustomed to the language and begin to understand phrases and separate utterances.
There are about 49 local dialects in the Slovenian language; they were formed according to different natural conditions and different ways of life. As far as the language of the Slovenian literature is concerned, it is based upon two dialects – dolen and horen, the graphics is based on the Roman alphabet.
In the regions close to Italy and Hungary, Italian and Hungarian are considered to be official ones respectively. Almost every Slovenian can speak one foreign language, e.g. English, German and recently Russian. So if you speak Russian and know basics of English of German, you have nothing to be afraid of in Slovenia. You will not face a language barrier and you will be easily understood by the locals.
